Evelyn Opal, daughter of Ada Pearl (Morse) and Charles Alvin Nusser was born December 6, 1923 at her grandparents home South East of Dacoma, Oklahoma. She passed away at the Alva Share Convalescent Home on the 11th day of December at the age of 86 years and 5 days.
She attended school in Dacoma, Friendship District 53 near Hopeton, and graduated in 1941 from Northwestern Horace Mann High School as Valedictorian of her class.
In the fall of 1941, attended 2 years at Northwestern State College and then began teaching. Through summer school and night classes she received her Bachelors of Science degree.
Teaching first at Friendship District 8 in Alfalfa County, and then teaching at Mound Ridge District 114 in Western Woods County. After teaching there for 2 years the school closed. Evelyn then moved to the Freedom School System where she taught for 3 years before teaching in Elementary in Dacoma for 17 years.
In 1966 she returned to Northwestern and received her Masters Degree. She then was employed by the Fowler Kansas School where she taught for 12 more years.
Evelyn had many fond memories of her teaching career and the success of many of her former students. She taught for 35 years, retiring in 1979.
Besides her school activities she loved to read, gardening, and was a seamstress, making most of her own clothes. Though she never had children of her own she watched from her porch each evening as the children boarded the buses at Washington to make sure no child got left behind. She also made sure every year her nieces and nephews had a card with money in it for their birthdays.
Miss Nusser was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Anna Shafer on March 10, 2006, three brothers; Harlin Wayne on December 6, 1972, James Arlin on April 25, 1989 and Alvin Lee on March 30, 1995.
Evelyn is survived by her sister Mary and Clifford Johnson of Dacoma, three brothers and their wives; Dean and Patty, Alan and Leota, and Charles and Judy, all of Alva. A number of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
